Bubbha Thomas was one of the great forces in jazz & soul music in his hometown of Houston, where he was a renowned drummer, bandleader, journalist, DJ and music educator from the early 1960s till his death in 2020. On this week's Lost Treasures, DJ Mackie is joined by Bubbha’s son Will, musicologists Lance Scott Walker and Flash Gordon Parks, and Now/Again records founder Egon to hear about the life and legacy of the powerful Bubbha Thomas. On Sat 2/10 at 9am, Lost Treasures was thrilled have in-studio DC legend Topper Carew talking about his revolutionary grassroots community center THE NEW THING, with music by his comrades Andrew White and Lloyd McNeil, both of whom performed regularly at the New Thing’s Jazz Workshop at St. Margaret’s Church in DC.
